Vacation Bible School This Week

posted Jul 10, 2017, 5:29 PM by web feat

Our kids are having a great time this week learning about "Getting S'more of Jesus!"

At "Camp Out VBS," kids trek through an outdoor adventure - minus bug spray and lack of sleep! They get to have fun and kindle new friendships, even as they discover that Jesus is the light of the world.

Camp Out VBS is meeting DAILY in the Chapel for an AFTERNOON session from 2 - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday the week of July 10 -14. All are welcome!

Kitchen Donations Tea Party

Gibson Home Essential Total Kitchen Combo Set from Walmart
As many know, members of Oxford Second Church have long been active supporters of Family Promise (helping homeless families) and DASACC (formerly DAARC, helping victims of domestic abuse).

Both of these agencies help families and individuals in crisis to make a safe, fresh start. But these efforts take resources, so we are now happy to be part of the Presbyterian Depot Project, collecting and providing necessary kitchen items as folks move into their new homes.

To that end, we are are excited to be hosting a "Welcome to Your New Home" tea party shower on June 4th at 11:30 am, following worship.

During this hour, we will provide various flavored hot and iced teas, coffee, tea sandwiches, and delicious desserts.
How can you help?  Other than bringing your appetite or favorite tea cup, we are hoping to collect new kitchen items for when our families enter their new homes.

Suggestions include pots and pans, dishware sets, glassware sets, all size bakeware (i.e. Pyrex casserole dishes, cookie sheets), silverware sets, or monetary donation towards the purchase of these items.

Questions? Feel free to contact us. Hope to see you there!

Now Hosting NAMI Family Support Meetings

posted Nov 21, 2016, 9:15 AM by web feat

Starting in January, 2017, we're happy to announce that NAMI Family Support Meetings will be offered in the Oxford Second Chapel from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM on the first Saturday of each month.

NAMI Warren County provides information on how to navigate the challenges of having a family member who has a mental illness. And they do this through empathy and encouragement during healthy, confidential and purposeful discussions.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Today, NAMI is an association of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.

Click here for more information about the various programs and resources offered by NAMI Warren County. We also invite you to download and share the flyer below to help us spread the word.

Meet our Sunday School Director

posted Sep 10, 2016, 9:46 AM by web feat

We are so happy to introduce our Director of Sunday School, Cathy Opdyke. Teaching is in Cathy's DNA, and she began as a Sunday School teacher when oldest daughter Rachel - now a student at Montclair State University - was just 5 years old.

She has continued that love of teaching as an aide in a special needs classroom over the last 15 years, and can hardly wait to welcome our next generation to our new Sunday School program for kids aged 4-12.

Each lesson will offer active experiences that teach in ways that kids remember, and encourage them to use what they've learned. There will also be take-home handouts, so they can share what they've learned with friends and family.

Bring the kids, and come meet Cathy and the team this Sunday at 9:30 am in the Chapel for our Open House session. We look forward to welcoming you!
