Another stock market crash. Riots and strikes and famines and loss... To say it’s been a tough week is an understatement. In these already challenging times, how do we keep from being fearful about the future? It's easy to forget that the disciples lived in even tougher times. They didn’t have 401k’s or Social Security. They had no healthcare plans (except perhaps to try to stay healthy) and few belongings; often they didn’t know where the next meal was coming from. Like us, they had good days and bad days. And even having witnessed miracles, their faith could falter, taking them from fearless to feeble in an instant. In this story from Matthew, the disciples have just seen Jesus feed the 4000 from just seven loaves of bread and a few small fish, with food left over. Now they see him walk on water, and Peter does the same. That is, until Peter's eyes shift from Jesus to the storm-tossed waves. As Peter sinks, Jesus grabs hold and saves him. In our own turbulent times, could the secret to weathering our storms be the same? To keep our eyes on Him, and know that He is there grabbing hold of us should we fall?
