One of the gifts of Scripture (and life), is that if we're paying attention, we can learn from the experiences and mistakes of others, and hopefully not repeat them. In his teachings to the Corinthians, Paul reminded them of their ancestors who were led by Moses out of slavery, through parted waters. They witnessed amazing miracles, and their needs were met by God every day. But they still resisted and wanted their own way. They gave into temptations, and  with bad results. 

 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (The Message)
