Only the Best

It's so easy to be caught up in worry, focusing on the worst as if it will somehow protect us. But the apostle Paul - who actually went through the worst - offers us a better way. Even as he was held for year under house arrest, chained to a Roman soldier, he lived what he taught. And his letter written to the Phillipians is as true now as it was then, encouraging us to focus on only the best:

"Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse." (Philippians 4:8-9)
