Whether Christian or not, most everyone has heard of "the prodigal son" - the younger son of a rich father who takes his share of the wealth, and runs off to "find himself." In the process, he loses it all foolishly and ends up hungry, alone, and slopping pigs. In desperation, he decides to return home and ask his father for forgiveness and a job as a hired hand. He is amazed and grateful when his father welcomes him with open arms, and immediately throws a big party to celebrate his return. But the story doesn't end there. There is another son, the older son, who is just as lost, though he doesn't seem to know it. And he is very angry that his father would respond in such a way to his spoiled little brother. After all, has the father ever thrown a party for the older son, or otherwise recognized his playing by the rules? It's just not fair! |
