Knowing What's Really Important

Ever wake up with so much to do, you don't even know where to start? Does it ever seem like the world is moving too fast, to the point you start to long for the "good old days" when things seemed safe and familiar? If so, it may come as as surprise to know people back in Paul's time - almost 2000 years ago - wanted their "good old days" back, too. They felt with the "old ways" they had a clear rule book that laid everything out clearly - what to do, what not to do; what was clean, what wasn't clean; who was in, who was out. But Jesus turned all that upside down. And even though Jesus came to show them a better way, they were strongly resistant to such radical change.

Paul could have continued down that old path and done well by his culture's values. But once he realized that God was doing a new and radical thing - a better thing - he chose to let go of the old and move on with the new. At the center was a sharp focus on the one thing that's most important in life. Paul offers a lesson that is just as true today, as we try to make sense of our own changing world.
