Most have of us have heard the old Yiddish proverb "Man plans, God laughs" -- and most of us have probably also experienced the truth of it. On this fourth Sunday in Advent, we hear how Joseph saw his practical plans derailed in ways that must have astounded him. To his credit and the world's benefit, Joseph quietly listened and obeyed. One of the many lessons for us is that God is always doing a "new thing," always redirecting our paths in unexpected ways. The question is, are we willing to move out of our comfort zone and go where God leads? How might the world be different if we were all as faithful as Joseph?
