Jesus was always telling stories. They were rarely meant to be taken literally, but rather were used as a way to help his followers understand deeper truths. In this story shared by Mark, Jesus makes the important point that what starts as a small, seemingly insignificant seed, can grow to something large and unexpected - totally different from how it started. Surely that can be said of the church and it's modest beginnings. But it can also be said of various aspects of our lives as well. Even little things we say or do become "seeds" of a sort, with impact beyond our awareness or understanding. Wonderful things can come from small beginnings. May the seeds we sow be those of love and kindness! |
