Finding the 'Unity' In Community

posted Nov 7, 2010, 2:55 PM by Oxford Second
This year's election has been a season of especially savage attack campaigns, with candidates sinking to new lows. At a time when our country is struggling in so many ways, there has never been greater need to work together, using all our talents and ideas for a common good. Instead, we we see a divisiveness that has not been so strong, some historians say, since Civil War days . Have we forgotten that "united we stand, divided we fall?"

In this week's lesson, Paul writes the Corinthians to strongly remind them of the need for unity:

I'll put it as urgently as I can: You must get along with each other. You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common.

We are blessed in our church family to be a people committed to working together with care and respect. But we must also take these lessons out into the world, working for unity in our community and beyond.
