Fair Warning

Once again, a rich man is the center of our story, as we continue in Luke. In this better known tale, the rich man dies and goes to hell. Meanwhile, the poor crippled man, Lazurus -- who lay at the rich man's doorstep, ignored and covered in sores -- also dies, but he goes to heaven. In his torment, the rich man cries up to heaven for relief, which can't happen. Then he begs for Lazurus to be sent back to earth to warn his five rich brothers. That can't happen either. After all, he's told, "'If they won't listen to Moses and the Prophets, they're not going to be convinced by someone who rises from the dead.'"

Who hasn't thought, at one time or another, that more money could solve all of life's problems? who hasn't fantasized about winning the lottery and "living the good life?" But the warning for us all is that the "good life" may not be what the world would have us think. Are we listening?
