Celebrating Our Past - Building Our Future

This Sunday we begin the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Oxford Second Church. It's amazing to consider that...
  • just a small group of people stepped out to start our church during the middle of the Civil War
  • we were founded the same year as the Emancipation Proclamation, putting an end to slavery
  • we were founded the same year that "Thanksgiving" became an official holiday (and we have much to be thankful for!)
We come from a long line of the "faithful" - one that goes back much further that 150 years. We follow in the footsteps of Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Paul, and so many others -- and of course, Jesus. Our founders could never have envisioned the world we live in today, just as we can't envision the world of future generations. But the faith that guided our ancestors is alive and well in us. We will continue to seek God's direction in how He wishes us to live and serve going forward, trusting His promise:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares theLord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)
