Have you ever been in a situation that just didn't feel fair? In this passage in Matthew, the owner of a vineyard is hiring workers to help harvest the crop. His first hires of the day start early, and are happy to receive the amount of pay promised. But surprisingly, the owner keeps hiring, right up until an hour before they finish for the day. The workers are paid in reverse order - last to start work get paid first, and they are paid the same amount as the workers who started early that morning. At first it gave them hope - if the late workers got paid for a whole day, surely the boss would pay them even more, right? Not so, it turns out, and they were livid. "That's just not fair!" they groused. Or is it? What is Matthew trying to tell us here? Based on Matthew 20:1-16. Click here to listen to the message, and access related resources. |
