“Guest House” by Rumi (13th century mystic and poet) This being human is a guest house Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the sham, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond. Byron Katie Resources "The Work of Byron Katie" is an effective tool for identifying and questioning thoughts that cause fear and suffering in our lives. Katie's website includes many free resources for "doing the work," and to help you understand the process, including numerous videos showing the work in action.
[*Note: while Byron Katie's process of questioning painful thoughts was used to address "worries" in the February 27th message, it can be used to question and resolve any thoughts that cause pain and suffering.]
