A Tricky Question

As Jesus continued to teach, the Pharisees became increasingly disturbed. But what to do? So they hatched a plan to try to trap him into saying something damaging.

"They sent their disciples, with a few of Herod’s followers mixed in, to ask, “Teacher, we know you have integrity, teach the way of God accurately, are indifferent to popular opinion, and don’t pander to your students. So tell us honestly: Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?'" (from Matthew 22, Eugene Peterson's, "The Message.")

Jesus' answer was simple: “'give Caesar what is his, and give God what is his.'”

It wasn't what the Pharisees expected, and they left in silence, unable to respond. But how does this speak to us, and how are WE to respond?
