A Promise of Things to Come

Have you ever been through a time when God seemed strangely silent; when it felt like God was even ignoring you? Have you ever prayed hard and felt like God wasn't listening, because nothing seemed to change, or because the prayers weren't answered the way you wanted? If so, you're not alone. We've all been through those painful times. But why?

There is so much we do not know, and just can't see, and today's story is an example of such a time. A good friend of Jesus is very ill, and his sisters send word for Jesus to come and save him. Instead, Jesus waits until his friend Lazarus is dead and buried before he shows up. Little does anyone know that Jesus had to allow the death of Lazurus and the suffering that went with it, to make way for a bigger good. He had to allow the death to happen so that he could bring him back to life, and prove the power of God; prove that Jesus was God-sent.  He had to allow some suffering to eliminate deeper suffering, and to offer greater hope for generations to come.

How might a silent God be working in our lives as well?
